Obituary

Doris V. Whylie was a naturalized American citizen migrated from her hometown in Belize. She was born on August 11, 1932 in Corozal Town north of Belize City. In Belize she was a seamstress and a teacher. She migrated to New York City for a better life. She worked really hard taking care of other families, but knowing Doris, her aspirations were higher. She was motivated to do more. Her dream was to become a nurse.

She often said "I have always admired the nurse functioning in her occupation because it gives the nurse the opportunity to work with people of various social and economic levels in an intimate way. I have always been interested in the science of healing and I have a strong desire to participate in alleviating the pains of human beings. It gives me the greatest satisfaction. Seeing the very person brought into the hospital and after medical treatment and good nursing care is able to ambulate out of the hospital on their own. For me, this is an enchanting experience of joy that only the science of healing can bring.

Doris completed her associate degree at Manhattan Community College in Nursing and passed her nursing boards and became a registered nurse. She worked at the New York Presbyterian Hospital from May of 1968 and retired on April 28, 1995. Doris and her husband moved to Florida and became proud members of Grace Bible Church, where she was inspired to be apart of the Young at Heart, chorus, West Orange Seniors, and Mall walker.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Barbara (Garfield) Whylie-Schroeter, Sharon (Eduardo) Whylie-Cintron, Karen (Romeo) Whylie-Brown; son, Hugh (Brenda) Whylie; sister, Julia D. (Augustus) Wellington;6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until services begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 4, 2017, Grace Bible Church of Central Florida, 801 Dorscher Road, Orlando, with Pastor Gene Pritchard, Officiating.
